944 runners started the sixth edition of the Grossglockner ULTRA-TRAIL® powered by DYNAFIT (GGUT), with a well thought-out hygiene concept and exciting route renewals, the GGUT took place in Kaprun from July 30th to August 1st, 2021. Instead of the planned five competitions, the team around organizer Hubert Resch set three distances and a program change due to rain and thunderstorms during the night from Friday to Saturday: The whole tour around Austria's highest mountain, GGUT 110, had to be shortened due to thunderstorms during the night from Friday to Saturday; they could start on Osttirol Trail (OTT 80) Saturday morning. Weissee Gletscherwelt Trail (GWT 35) made the start on Friday, July 30 at 07 a.m. The starting signal for the other routes was given on Saturday. With the GGUT Live TV, the team of moderators realized a live broadcast on ultratrail.at. The organizers recorded more than 100,000 hits each on the 2 days of the competition.
Double victory for Team DYNAFIT in the Weissee Glacier World Trail
The competition weekend started on July 30th with the Gletscherwelt Trail, which took place on a new route with a distance of 35 kilometres and 1,500 meters of altitude. After starting in the Weissee Glacier World on Enzingerboden, the trail runners headed over the Rudolfshütte, the Kapruner Törl (2.693 m) and the Mooserboden to Kaprun.
First place went to the two DYNAFIT athletes André Purschke (GER) and the Norwegian Eli Anne Dvergsdal. For Purschke, after second places in 2018 (110 km) and 2019 (30 km), it was the greatest success at GGUT: “It was important to me to win here, and I'm very happy that it worked out. The last seven kilometres were hard, it was also really hot, but I was able to keep my lead in front of Tomas Hudec."
His DYNAFIT team-mate Dvergsdal crossed the finish line in fourth overall and was happy to have won her first race in Austria. Second in the women’s category (and eighth overall) went to Schladming’s Johanna Hiemer, who had already won twice on the GWT 35 run.
