ADVENDURE is the leading web portal in Greece about Mountain Running, Adventure, Endurance and other Mountain Sports
On Thursday at 6 p.m. the starting signal was given for the KAT100 Miles, the longest Ultratrail in Austria, in Fieberbrunn. Accompanied by thunderous applause and unmistakable cheers, the 130 trail runners set off on the course. The KAT100 Miles is held both as an Austrian championship and as a qualifying race for the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB), which is why the performance density is also enormously high. In addition to the premiere winner of 2019 Florina Vasutiu (ROU), Florian Probst (winner 24h Hochkönigman) and Esther Fellhofer (winner Traunsee Bergmarathon 2021) are also at the start, which are undoubtedly to be counted among the tightest circle of favorites. Local hero Markus Reich will try to hold his own against the international running competition. 173.7 kilometers and 9,996 meters of altitude lie ahead of the athletes. The first finishers were already expected on Friday around 9 p.m., after approximately 27 hours.
"The start has been successful all around. The weather is also playing along, so that the runners can expect a tough but also impressive route, which has incredible scenic appeal", says organizer and trail running professional Thomas Bosnjak.
Together with the KAT100 Miles, the KAT100 Endurance Trail with 91.5 kilometers and the KAT100 Ekiden Trail, in which the 173.9 kilometers are to be mastered as a relay race for teams of two and four, also started. The first finishers were expected around 9 p.m. Following the first finishes, the official opening ceremony of the KAT100 2021 took place at the village square of Fieberbrunn, where the expo area, catering and music will also be located.
