Mount Zerbion in the Merrell Skyrunner World Series circuit!

By 04 Δεκ 2024

On 17 May, the ninth of the 23 races scheduled worldwide - Organising committee working to grow further.

The international Merrell Skyrunner World Series circuit lands in Valle d'Aosta and next spring will stop in Châtillon, where the fourth edition of the Monte Zerbion Skyrace will be run on 17 May 2025. This is the big news, anticipated at the end of last year's edition and now made official. Another prestigious milestone for an event that has focused on internationality right from the start.

MZS22 - a 22-kilometre race with passage to the summit of the Zerbion - will be the ninth stage of the 23 planned by the circuit, which will involve 16 nations and 4 continents. Start and finish in Châtillon, in the midst of a varied trail with running and vertical passages. A not so high peak, which has however launched several skyrunning champions, such as the testimonials Bruno Brunod, Dennis Brunod and the late Jean Pellissier. The queen race will therefore award points for the Merrell Skyrunner World Series circuit.

A change in the second skyrace, which becomes 14.5 kilometres (1,250 metres D+) and will allow other glimpses of the area to be discovered. It will be a less demanding, but equally spectacular trial, with the turning point at the Cheney alpine pasture, at an altitude of 1,790 metres.

The two verticals are confirmed. The trial of 9.5 kilometres, 2,200 metres of positive height difference with departure from Châtillon and arrival at the top of the Zerbion, was again included in the international calendar VK Open Championships, the same as last year. The 5.5 kilometres (850 metres D+) will once again be open to everyone, including the under-18s and people with disabilities.

In the meantime, the Monte Zerbion organising committee, which has been planning the new edition for several months, is in full swing. The entry in the Merrell Skyrunner World Series circuit is undoubtedly an international showcase, capable of making Châtillon and the Aosta Valley known in the world, but it requires new standards and further implementations with respect to the past, already being studied by a cohesive working group that has built up the right experience in recent years.
