THE COUNTDOWN FOR LA SPORTIVA LAVAREDO ULTRA TRAIL BY UTMB® HAS BEGUN

More than 5,000 athletes from 76 countries will descend on Cortina in just over a month. The Ampezzo event, which is part of the UTMB World Series 2022, is being held from 23 to 26 June

Cortina d'Ampezzo (Belluno), 24 May 2022 – The 2022 edition of La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail by UTMB®is getting ready to welcome its biggest athlete field to date. After the hiatus in 2020, and the revival in 2021 with more than 4,000 runners, this year will see over 5,000 registered participants from 76 countries descend on Cortina to tackle the Dolomite trails. Over 10,000 athletes entered the draw back in November with the hope of taking part in one of the four trail races happening, with half of these athletes securing a bib.


The 2022 edition will be held in the mountains of Cortina d'Ampezzo, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites, the same place where the Winter Olympics will be held in 2026. Participants will be immersed in the uniquely spectacular landscape of the Dolomite mountains, and will enjoy unparalleled natural scenary as they run through one of the most famous mountain tourist destinations in Italy.


The four traditional races taking place are as follows:
Lavaredo Ultra Trail (15th edition), is the pinnacle event, and consists of 120 km and 5,800 metres of elevation. Starting and finishing in the central Corso Italia in Cortina, participants will have have a 30 hour time limit. The race starts at 11 pm on 24 June. 
UltraDolomites (3rd edition) is the second race in terms of elevation gain and distance (80 km with an elevation gain of 4,600 metres). It has a different starting point every year: after Auronzo di Cadore in 2019 and Sesto in 2021, this year, it will start in San Vigilio di Marebbe, in Alto Adige.  The race starts at 6:30 am on 25 June and athletes have 22 and a half hours to finish after travelling through wonderful places such as Val Ciastlins, Braies lake and the Dolomiti di Fanes.
The Cortina trail (10th edition) starts at 8 am on 24 June and participants face a distance of 48 km and 2,600 metres elevation gain (maximum time is 12 hours).
The Cortina Sky Race (7th edition) is the shortest race, at 20km with 1,000m of elevation gain. This race kicks off the intense 4 days in Ampezzo at 5 pm on 23 June.
