Previously, the first day of the event saw the XTERRA MUSANDAM 10km Trail Run, and XTERRA MUSANDAM 21km Trail Half Marathon taking place on a brand-new trail developed specifically for the event by organizers TRIME.OM (which will be left in place for future endurance sports events in Musandam).
The overall winner of the 10km Trail Run event was Issa Al Kamzari, while for the 21km Trail Half Marathon men's event, Maxim Chane took the overall win, and Marta Menditto won the women's event.
The 2023 XTERRA MUSANDAM offered a combined $23,000 prize purse for the winners, which included a $16,000 Pro Prize Purse for the main event, and $7,000 Prize Purse for the Trail Run. A total of 28 slots were also made available for the 2023 XTERRA World Championship on 23 September in Molveno, Trentino, Italy.
SPORTING SUCCESS FOR MUSANDAM GOVERNORATE & MUSCAT MUNICIPALITY
On 16 March, the 2023 XTERRA MUSANDAM kicked off in a fun and festive atmosphere with the opening of the official 2023 XTERRA MUSANDAM Race Village at Khasab Fort. The XTERRA Kids Fun Run for boys and girls also went ahead with much success; and served to inspire a sporting spirit among the young athletes.
The organizers for the 2023 XTERRA MUSANDAM event are the leading sports events company TRIME.OM (Triathlon Middle East).
Commenting on the success of the event, Mr. Mohammed bin Khalfan Al Obaidani - CEO, TRIME.OM explained: "The 2023 XTERRA MUSANDAM proved to be a significant success for the Musandam Governorate and Muscat Municipality, as it highlighted Musandam and Oman as a premium destination in the Middle East for hosting world-class, globally-recognized sporting events. We had a fantastic response from the athletes taking part – who were delighted with the stunning natural beauty of the Musandam Peninsula. Our team were also very proud to witness the warm welcome shown by the local Musandam community to all foreign athletes taking part – as they welcomed them to their magnificent land."
In the lead up to the event, as stated by Eng. Nassir Humaid Al Hosni, Director-General of Musandam Municipality and Spokesman of the Governorate of Musandam, sporting events of this nature serve to drive economic diversification in Oman and a boost to local economies through tourism, while creating greater synergy between the government, civil society, and the private sector. They also contribute positively to social development in Oman, especially among the younger population.
Official Event Sponsors for the 2023 XTERRA MUSANDAM included the Governorate of Musandam; the global energy company Oxy; Musandam Municipality; the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism; the Ministry of Culture Sports and Youth; as well as the Public Authority for SME Development, Triathlon Middle East, and Sponsor. The European Tour Partners for the event included Zoggs, Vittoria, and Elle-Erre.
